Facial Cupping: The New Botox?

Facial vacuum therapy, or facial cupping, is becoming increasingly popular with beauty salons.

Scupping is a 5000 year old traditional therapy method from Chinese medicine. Special cupping glasses are placed on the skin and then a vacuum is created by means of a pump. This vacuum pulls the skin and the underlying tissue upwards, stimulates blood circulation and lymph flow.

This suction contributes to, Increase blood circulation, which promotes the delivery and absorption of nutrients, stimulate collagen production promote lymphatic drainage, strengthens and tightens skin tissue, relieve muscle tension.

It is believed that cupping the face improves the appearance of the skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles. So, a beauty trend with anti-aging effect. It is often used as a non-invasive alternative to Botox and other cosmetic procedures.

Facial Cupping for home

It is advisable to visit a cosmetic studio or dermatologist before cupping your face for the first time. When cupping, there is always a risk of bruising, which no one wants to wear on their face for several days. There are also special movement patterns for facial areas such as around the mouth, eyes, forehead, cheeks or chin.

What do you have to consider before Face Cupping?

Before you start, it is important to clean your décolleté and face thoroughly and remove makeup. Avoid irritating the skin with strong acids or mechanical peels. Afterwards, you can generously apply a nourishing facial oil (e.g. argan oil) so that the Face Cups glide smoothly over the skin.

How the application works

When cupping the face, one uses cupping glasses with a diameter of about 3 cm. These glasses are either made of silicone or have a suction ball. Subsequently, the suction cups are placed on the skin of the face by pressing out the air, which makes them stick due to the vacuum effect created. In the picture below you can see the cupping lines and directions of movement shown with arrows.

Then take the glass and gently move it over the face, either in straight or circular movements. Each movement is repeated several times until the target area shows a slight redness, thus ensuring good blood circulation.

It is especially important to be careful in the area around the eyes, as the skin there is very thin and sensitive. Therefore, glasses with a diameter of about 1 - 1.5 cm should be used and only minimal pressure should be applied.

If you want to cupping your face daily, 2 to 3 minutes of application is enough! You can also divide it 2 to 3 times a week, then it may calmly take 10 minutes.

You should pay attention to

Before you start Facial Cupping, you should ask your doctor for advice if there are any diseases or problems. Cupping is allowed only on uninjured skin. Avoid regions with wounds, inflammations and moles. Do not use the cupping glasses near the thyroid gland. To avoid redness (couperose, rosacea) and sensitive areas with fine blood vessels, you should avoid areas that are affected.

However, cupping glasses can be used around these areas as they can reduce pressure on the hair vessels. If your face has numerous highly visible dilated blood vessels, we do not recommend cupping directly on your face. Instead, we recommend the neck, décolleté and shoulders.

After cupping

After therapy, it is advisable to provide the stressed skin with soothing substances such as aloe vera, chamomile or an anti-aging fluid.
