What is acupressure?

Acupressure is a natural treatment alternative and originates from traditional Chinese medicine. It has proven to be effective in relieving headaches. It is based on the principles of acupuncture, in which needles are used to stimulate specific points on the body. In acupressure, these points are stimulated with pressure rather than needles. There are over 400 acupressure points on the human body.

It is believed that each point is associated with a specific organ or function. Stimulating these points can help relieve pain and promote healing in that area. Acupressure has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to treat a variety of ailments. It is a safe, non-invasive treatment with few side effects.

How does acupressure work?

Acupressure works by stimulating the nervous system and releasing endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. Endorphins are produced by the pituitary gland and act on the brain to reduce the perception of pain. In addition, acupressure can improve blood circulation and promote relaxation. When the body is relaxed, it is better able to heal itself

Acupressure points against headache

Now we come to the most important pressure points against headaches. You can find the acupressure points on the head as well as on the hand and forearm. To stimulate them properly, there are several acupressure techniques. One of the most common is to use the fingertips or thumb.

Another is to use a massage ball or special acupressure wood for acupressure on the head. To use the fingertips, find the appropriate point. Apply gentle pressure to that point. The pressure must be greater than a touch and may create a noticeable punctual pressure.

Either apply constant pressure or massage it in light circular motions for two minutes. Repeat this twice a day until the headache subsides. If you are using a massage ball or acupressure wood, find the point and place the ball on that point and apply pressure. Massage with the ball in a circular motion for two minutes. Repeat this also twice a day until the pain in the head subsides.

The He Gu (Di4)

The Hegu is one of the best known acupressure points and is generally stimulated to relieve pain.

The Hegu is a universal pain point and is located on the back of the hand in the bulge between the index finger and thumb. Stimulate this point with gentle pressure for two minutes until the headache subsides.

You can also do this alternately between both hands. Press the point alternately with the right and left hand for about three seconds for several minutes.

Important. Pregnant women should not use this point under any circumstances. Often the point is used in obstetrics to induce labor and strengthen contractions.

The Lique (Lu9)

The pressure points Lique LU9 is located on the inside of your arm, about four thumb widths below your wrist in a depression.

Once you find the point, press it firmly with your thumb for two to three minutes. You will feel a sense of relief from headaches or neck pain.

The lique is located on the lung meridian.

Yang Bai (Gb14)

The Yang Bai is located on gallbladder meridian.

The Yang Bai acupressure point (GB14) is located a thumb's width above the center of the eyebrows.

For headaches, this is one of the most effective pressure points. It helps relieve tension and pain and can be used for all types of headaches, including migraines.

The Yin Tang is located on the Governing Vessel Meridian.
